A little bit of history..... In researching the beginnings of Aiea Chapter,
Carolyn Yim found the following article from the "News From Our
Chapters" in the June 11, 1985 edition of "The Hawaii Ballroom", the
HBDA newspaper that said the chapter started in January 1985.
Classes back then was at some school around Aiea until the chapter had
to move because of school repairs. From the school, the chapter moved
to the Aiea Gymnasium on Aiea Heights Drive for awhile. Parking at that
gym facility was limited and the use of the gym floor was also in demand
by others. The treasurer, Thomas Yamauchi, then found a much better
and quieter site with more parking and less competition for floor use for
the chapter members. That site is the Gus Webling Elementary School's
cafetorium. Over 26 years later, the chapter is still at the school's
cafetorium for their dance classes.
